  The day after picking up the VFR400 I was at Mallory circuit. The VFR750  was far too loud to ride, all bets were on the new 400. Looking too heroic. Things started off damp and I wasn't going to push this thing too hard out of the box, so all was well initially.  As the day war on and things dried out, the back end got more interesting however. Due to limited tyre choices, the previous owner had gone for an Avon Storm. This was clearly struggling a bit and got me thinking of options to improve back end grip. the front Avon race tyre meanwhile looked absolutely fine and did nothing but grip. As people keep telling me there are such limited choices for the 18" NC30 rear wheel, I went straight to finding a 17" alternative . Donors for a 17" wheel include the RVF400 NC35 and NSR250 MC28. So just the most exotic small capacity bikes Honda sold on the mass market, great. Obviously rear wheels for these were never cheap and some 30 years later, hadn't got cheaper. Ot...

Buying a bike on a whim

As advertised the NC30 beckons With the option of a free track day I was looking forward to a cheap weekday event on my Honda VFR750 RC24 with either the Yamaha RD250 or possibly a RAF Classic Racing Team XJ600. However serviceability and a chance browse of the CRMC sales page lead me to emptying my bank account again instead. A hurried browse round saw this very well priced and turned out VFR400 NC30 slung in the back of my van after a far too short chat with the lovely Michael Wale. I had places to be and this bike better be as good as it looks! less than an hour after she was picked up I had an evening to have a quick look over the bike in the paddock for the RAFMSA motorsports event at Mallory park, change pressures and make sure nothing was glaringly wrong with her. I also had beers to drink and people to chat to so not much of that got done at all. As it turned out she was in great nick and unlick the 750 she was pretty quiet.
